Here is our list of some of the best comedy movies of 1999.

Office Space

“Office Space” is a 1999 cult classic comedy film directed by Mike Judge, who is also known for creating TV shows like “Beavis and Butt-Head” and “King of the Hill”.

The film satirizes the everyday work life of a typical mid-to-late 1990s software company, focusing on a handful of individuals who are fed up with their jobs.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Director: Jay Roach

Starring: Mike Myers, Heather Graham, Seth Green, Rob Lowe, Verne Troyer, Michael York, Robert Wagner

“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” is a 1999 action-comedy film, and is the second installment in the “Austin Powers” series.

The film, like its predecessor, parodies numerous elements from spy films, particularly those of the James Bond series, and the 1960s counterculture era.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

Director: Trey Parker, Matt Stone

“South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” is a 1999 animated musical comedy film based on the popular TV series “South Park”.

The film starts with the boys — Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick — sneaking into a Canadian film featuring their favorite comedy duo, Terrance and Phillip.

Upon their return to school, they repeat the profanities they learned, which leads to their mothers, especially Kyle’s mother Sheila, becoming outraged. The boys are made to attend a rehabilitation program to learn how to stop swearing. However, this is not enough for the parents, particularly the mothers. Sheila rallies the parents and they wage a campaign against Canada, which results in Terrance and Phillip being arrested.

American Pie

Director: Paul Weitz

Starring: Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Sean Williams Scott

“American Pie” is a 1999 comedy film that focuses on the lives of five high school friends.

Galaxy Quest

Director: Dean Parisot

Starring: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni

“Galaxy Quest” is a 1999 science fiction comedy film that parodies the fan culture associated with classic sci-fi TV shows such as “Star Trek”.

The story revolves around the washed-up cast of a canceled 1980s sci-fi television show called “Galaxy Quest.” While they once enjoyed the heights of fame, the actors now make their living attending conventions and promotional events to meet fans.

The plot kicks into gear when real aliens known as the Thermians, who’ve been intercepting broadcasts of “Galaxy Quest” episodes, mistake the show for “historical documents.” Believing the cast to be actual space-faring heroes, the Thermians seek their help to defeat the genocidal warlord, Sarris, who threatens their species.

Initially, Nesmith believes the scenario to be an elaborate fan event, but he and the cast soon realize they’re in real danger aboard a fully functional replica of their fictional spaceship, the NSEA Protector.

The actors must now step into their roles for real. Despite being out of their depth and facing numerous challenges, they try to embrace their characters to save the Thermians and thwart Sarris.

Dogma

Director: Kevin Smith

Starring: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alanis Morissette

“Dogma” is a 1999 comedy film that blends religious themes with humor and satire. It’s a part of Kevin Smith’s film series known as the “View Askewniverse.”

The film revolves around two fallen angels, Loki (played by Matt Damon) and Bartleby (played by Ben Affleck), who were banished to Wisconsin for eternity as punishment for defying God.

When they discover a religious loophole in a Catholic church in New Jersey that offers a plenary indulgence to any visitor, they realize that by passing through the church’s archway, they can get their sins forgiven and return to Heaven.
