These plans end up with Princess Leia Organa, who places them in the droid R2-D2 along with a holographic message. R2-D2 and his companion, C-3PO, land on the desert planet Tatooine. There, they are bought by young Luke Skywalker and his uncle and aunt. Through them, Luke discovers the message from Princess Leia, which is a call for help directed to the Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Luke and Obi-Wan, with the help of smuggler Han Solo and his ship the Millennium Falcon, embark on a mission to deliver the plans to the Rebel Alliance and rescue Princess Leia from her imprisonment by the Empire. Along the way, Luke begins his journey into understanding the Force, a mystical energy field that gives the Jedi their power.
