Medusa was one of the Gorgons, a group of three monstrous sisters who were the daughters of the sea god Poseidon and the sea monster Ceto.
Her sisters were named Stheno and Euryale.
Like Medusa, they were feared for their ability to turn anyone who looked at them directly into stone.
Medusa was the only one of the Gorgons who was mortal, and she was famously slain by the hero Perseus.
Her sisters, however, were immortal and were said to continue causing fear and destruction even after Medusa’s demise.
