The story of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya is about a family business that has become a global name in the sphere of incense production and is most famous for their ‘Satya’ line of incense sticks.

Founded in 1964 by Late Shri K.N. Satyam Setty, an ardent devotee of spirituality and Ayurveda, Shrinivas Sugandhalaya came into existence with a noble vision: to spread the fragrance of incense to every corner of the world.

Interestingly, he is known to have suffered from a condition known as ‘anosmia’, which can interfere with the ability to smell.

Rather than relying on his sense of smell to create incense, he studied ancient Indian texts on perfumery and in 1964 he started his first incense factory.

One of Shri K.N. Satyam Setty’s core interests was in masala techniques, which were popular during medieval times, and incorporate natural herbs, flowers, resins and spices to create a fragrant sticky paste which is then rolled onto a stick.

The Signature Product

Shrinivas Sugandhalaya is best known for its flagship product, their blue box Nag Champa incense sticks.

This incense, with its distinct aroma derived from the Champa flower and other natural ingredients, has become synonymous with the brand.

Another one of their most popular products, ‘Super Hit’, was invented by him and one of his sons, Shri Balakrishna Setty.

International Expansion and Recognition

Over the years, Shrinivas Sugandhalaya’s growth trajectory has been upward, fueled by the increasing international demand for its products. The company expanded its product range to include other fragrances, such as Super Hit, Sandal, and Jasmine, but Nag Champa remains its best seller.

Shrinivas Sugandalaya is now split into 2 companies, with each half being owned by a different son.
